Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and the Superheroes in the Early 1960s (part 1)

Podcast of this blog entry

Stan Lee and Jack Kirby were both instrumental in the make over of superheroes in the '60s.  After the wars, people grew weary of superheroes.  The public no longer wanted to read about these do-gooders who did no wrong.  In the midst of Marvel trying to deal with the loss of public interest, Lee and Kirby collaborated in inventing The Fantastic Four.  They were the first of many new superheroes who had a more humanistic side to them.  They were placed in every day problems and situations that they had to deal with, super powers or not.  It made the readers connect to the superheroes in a way that was closer than they ever did before.  This was considered the Silver Age of Marvel as the superheroes at this time had not been this popular since they first came out in the '30s.
